History

Nordic IT Marine Communication was founded in 2002 by Heiko F. Höfer and entered into the Commercial Register Hamburg on 17.3.2003.

Heiko Höfer was trained from 1975 to become a merchant in the ship owning and shipbroking business at Schulte & Bruns, Emden. After several years in London and New York, in 1981 he returned to Germany. IT was his hobby early on – freight calculations were run on a Sharp PC 1401 back in the early 80’s.

As one of the first ship brokers in Germany, the Telex system was switched from paper tape to PC in 1985 – the SEL (Standard Elektrik Lorenz) telex machine continued to function as a transceiver unit. To understand a telex work with 400 Baud about 2 lines (50 characters) per minute.

In 1995, H. Höfer already uses the data interface on board ships with Inmarsat. Instead of an expensive telex via satellite, a DOS software via the built-in modem with 9.6 Kbit / s messages to a telex service provider was sent  for example messages to 5 recipients simultaneously in real time. Saving against the monopolist Dt. Post of 60%.

In the course of the deregulation of telecommunications at the end of the 1990s, Mr Höfer switched from the shipping side to the supplier side. First as Country Manager for Great Nordic Comtext – it then became Nordic IT Marine Communication.

Goal

In a time of extremely rapid change in communication – the aim was to promptly inform customers about new technologies.

After HF / UKW radio Inmarsat A was online. In 1982, the first and only maritime service that enabled voice and fax as well as analog data transfer.

Today there are more than 50 communication systems which more or less well find  “their way to Rome”.

After detailed analysis of the needs and review of existing communication systems, individual solutions were proposed.

Not necessarily the satellite service provider (carrier) is in the foreground – but the entire package of communication, frontend programs, networks, integration of third-party products.

An end-to-end solution becomes a “plug & email” or “plug & surf” reality for the end user.

We attach great importance to working “carrier” independently and to tailoring the customer’s best individual package for his needs.

We also paid attention to the budget and the cost / benefit analysis.

Let us convince you that the motto is:
expensive = reliable & good or cheap = unreliable & bad – not necessarily true.
